Program Information
The 500-Year Forest Foundation and forest owners partner to steward, conserve and develop old-growth forests according to the owner’s vision and the Foundation’s Forest Management Principles.
Services to owners include:
- Preparing adaptive conservation plans.
- Developing baseline documentation of forests including flora, fauna, and watershed inventories.
- Establishing permanent plots that are reinventoried every ten years.
- Keeping forest records.
- Providing continuing forestry education.
- Auditing and periodically updating the forest plan.
- Maintaining the forest owner partnership through regular contact.
- Helping to find like owners when a forest is passed on outside the family.
What we seek in a 500-Year Forest
- Landowners with strong conservation ethic,
- Forests of 100 acres or more,
- Significant number of trees 70 years or older,
- Exceptions to size and age are made for certain special sites.
